A Communist Germany AAR: Part 17 (Final Part)
In which we conclude the World Revolution.
The Liberation of Japan
After securing Iwo Jima, Okinawa and Taiwan, we have spent the past three months preparing for the final invasion of Japan. We have used this time wisely; a vast transport fleet has been assembled in Busan and other members of the International have selflessly donated divisions to assist in the liberation of Japan. However the Japanese have also been preparing for our attack...
The Japanese Army
Japan has produced a sizable number of tank divisions to defend the home islands with. While inferior to our own, Japanese tanks will be heavily entrenched and difficult to destroy.
The Japanese Army
In addition, our spies report that the Japanese have a number of “Wonder Weapons” in reserve to repel our invasion. These include Super-Heavy Tanks that like our own are nearly impenetrable, assault rifles and a massive number of land mines that have been placed around the coast. The Nuclear Bomb that the Americans stuck out of their country during our invasion is also still unaccounted for, and we fear that it may have fallen into Japanese hands...
The Japanese Army
In addition to these weapons, the Japanese have also mobilised their entire population to repel our invasion. The old, the young and the weak have all been drafted in order to put up a last ditch defence of their deranged Fascist State. School children have been given machine guns to defend the coast and disabled war veterans have been recalled to duty.
Kamikaze
Finally with the Imperial Navy in tatters, the Japanese have launched “Kamikaze” attacks to sink our fleet. We need to put a stop to this regime to liberate the Japanese people and stop any more needless waste of life.
Kamikaze
With the invasion fleet nearly ready, we have recalled or main carrier fleet back to port. However while passing the East Coast, we came under attack from an air wing of Kamikaze planes...
Kamikaze
The Japanese attack proved to be successful as the enemy sunk our Heavy Cruiser the “Deutschland”. We built this ship shortly after coming to power and its loss cuts deep...
The Liberation of Japan
By Mid-February the Invasion force is finally ready and we can begin our liberation of Japan. 23 members of the International will be participating in this invasion. These include Burma, Africa, Australia, Mexico, Italy, The Balkan Federation, Poland, Iberia, Colombia, Central America, the USSA, the Arabian Republic, China, Canada, New Zealand, Argentina, Brazil, Lithuania, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, France and the Republic of Britain. With this, 242 divisions are ready to invade Japan. This will truly be an International Effort to bring down the Fascists!
Support from the People
Indeed, on the eve of the invasion parades in full support of our operation have broken out across the International. The largest of these of course was held in Berlin where millions came to the city to show their support.
Support from the People
Surprisingly, sizable demonstrations also break out across the USSA despite the rampant anti-communist sentiment that lingers across the country. It is clear that the whole planet is in support of our righteous crusade!
Landing on the Beaches
The first wave of our assault begins landing in Kagoshima on the 17th of February. Our men come under almost immediate fire from enemy positions and our losses are extremely high. This is in spite of our extensive bombardment of the beaches prior to the attack...
Landing on the Beaches
After just one day our invasion force is thrown back into the sea after not even making it off of the beaches. The second wave of our attack quickly begins landing in Kagoshima...
Landing on the Beaches
Our men have some early success and break through the beach defences and begin advancing inland. The Japanese have 16 divisions in the area so with enough continual assaults we should be able to capture the south of Kyushu.
Landing on the Beaches
Our second wave is defeated and the third wave begins its assault. We are steadily making progress but at what cost? 40,000 men have already been killed or wounded trying to take Kagoshima.
Landing on the Beaches
The third wave is similarly defeated and the fourth wave arrives. The Japanese have moved an additional 16 divisions to Kagoshima in its defence casting doubt on whether we have any chance in staging a successful landing in Japan...
Landing on the Beaches- Failed
We decide to withdraw the fourth wave of our invasion force early and pull back to Busan. It is clear that any direct landing operation will be heavily resisted meaning Japan is essentially invincible to any conventional attacks...
Scouting the coast
Our scouts report massed Japanese formations on all potential landing zones across Japan meaning we have no hope of forcing our way inland via a landing... With no other options, we will have to resort to nuclear weapons.
Another Nuke
We decide that Hiroshima will be a suitable landing zone for our attack. On the 12 of April, we will drop a Nuclear bomb on the city and follow up the attack with a massive landing operation. Civilian casualties will be inevitable but we see no other option, otherwise the rest of the Japanese people will suffer under their Fascist Leadership until the end of time.
Another Nuke
The nuclear weapon is detonated as planned, killing 12,000 Japanese soldiers and many more civilians. We need to follow up this attack with an immediate invasion.
Landing in Japan
The surviving defenders are in a state of complete disarray resulting in a swift victory. American marines lead the landing and we quickly secure the city.
Landing in Japan
On the 14th of April approximately 40 International divisions land in Japan. Our men begin to set up defensive positions while they wait for the rest of our army to be shipped to the province. In response to this, the Japanese Government begins yet another emergency draft despite equipment shortages. Citizens are given muskets, bows and spears to defend their country with.
Bombing Tokyo
In an attempt to disrupt the Japanese war machine, we launch roughly 40 V2 rockets at Tokyo’s Industrial sites in order to destroy their industry. We need every advantage we can get if we want to defeat these Fascists.
Landing in Japan
By mid May we have 128 divisions assembled in Hiroshima. We feel confident that we can now push into Kyushu and Kobe.
Attacking Kyushu
American marines lead the attack into Nagasaki. Most of the defending divisions are citizen militias armed with swords and spears giving us a technological edge. The strait between Honshu and Kyushu gives the defenders a major advantage however but we believe that with overwhelming numbers we can breach their defences.
Attacking Kobe
Kobe is defended by a large number of Japanese tanks so we send our own armoured units to break through the Japanese line. Years of highly mobile tank warfare has led to us having an extremely experienced army meaning we expect to break through very quickly.
Failed attack into Nagasaki
We are forced to stop our attack into Kyushu after additional enemy divisions arrive. We will concentrate on attacking Kobe for now.
Kobe offensive
Some 30 additional Japanese divisions arrive in Kobe however we are not prepared to give up our attack just yet. Once we neutralise the enemy’s tanks, we should be able to easily win the battle. Our tank destroyers and heavy tanks prove to be extremely useful in destroying enemy vehicles, including Japanese super-heavy tanks.
Kobe offensive
Surprisingly the Japanese withdraw early despite their numerical advantage. This battle proved to be one of the deadliest that we have ever fought; with more than 100,000 men losing their lives.
Kobe offensive
Upon arriving in Kobe our forces come under immediate from Kyoto, Osaka and Matsuyama. We are also ambushed by a massive number of civilian militias which we had presumed to be non-hostile. We can tell already that pacifying Japan will cost many men their lives; regardless of who they fight for.
Kobe offensive
The Japanese quickly cancel their attack after taking heavy losses. The path is now open to move further up Japan.
Moving up Japan
We begin three simultaneous attacks on Kyoto, Osaka and Matsuyama. Many Japanese units that withdrew from Kobe have ended up defending Kyoto so we shall concentrate our efforts there.
Moving up Japan
Kyoto soon falls bringing the old Japanese capital under our occupation. Our men have found it impossible to trust any Japanese civilians due to their hostility and willingness to fight to the death. Decades of Japanese propaganda has clearly left its mark on the populace...
Moving up Japan
Canadian troops move into Osaka bringing it under our control as well. We have now split the Japanese defenders into two pockets, giving us an important advantage.
Moving up Japan
A massive armoured push is launched against Nagoya which is defended by militias. By now it appears that the Japanese are on the run and victory is approaching.
Moving up Japan
We secure Shikoku on the 7th of July after a pitched battle with help from the American Navy providing fire support. We are now in position to launch a massive assault on Kyushu from both Honshu and Shikoku.
An International War
The state of the front as of the 7th of July. International divisions have arrived in Nagoya and we feel prepared enough to launch a final crushing attack on the Japanese. We shall attempt to encircle Tokyo around the North while we begin a simultaneous attack on Kyushu. Let the Capitalists finally fall!
Attacking Kyushu
We begin our attack on Kyushu and we swiftly gain the upper hand. The Japanese defenders are both out of supply surrounded.
Attacking Kyushu
After a week of combat, the Japanese launch one final counter attack to expel us from the island...
Attacking Kyushu
...However this proves to be their undoing. With the enemy crushed we begin to move into Kyushu by occupying Nagasaki. We now occupy over half of Japan and the Japanese people are beginning to become disillusioned with their leadership.
State of the Front
State of the front as of the end of August. Two enemy pockets remain; one in Kagoshima and one in Tokyo. While our enemy prepares to attack Tokyo, we will finish off the stragglers in Kagoshima.
Attacking Kyushu
After a crushing attack the Japanese army in Kyushu surprisingly surrenders to our army. Perhaps the enemy has finally given up hope?
Tokyo surrounded
On the 17th of August we are finally in position to finish off the enemy and liberate Japan. We have come a long way since 1933, but this will be the last battle that we will ever have to fight. Leading the attack is Field Marshal Marchwitza.
Marchwitza- A man of the people!
Marchwitza has fought with us since the beginning back in 1933. He was the man that expelled the Nazis from Munich and he shall also be responsible for crushing that last Imperialist state plaguing the Earth. We have been fighting for almost 20 years now; it is time to finally liberate mankind.
Battle of Tokyo
165 International divisions converge on Tokyo against the 54 Japanese divisions defending the city. Our Heavy tanks shall breach the outer defences allowing International infantry to enter the city.
Battle of Tokyo
After one day of fighting we launch a major Assault on the city. Most of the defenders are draftees who are easily butchered by our army. The enemy’s defences are strongest around the Imperial palace but we have no doubt that we will persevere!
Battle of Tokyo
The VMS Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels provide fire support from Tokyo bay. After the war these ships shall be retired and converted into museums as thanks for their many years of service.
Battle of Tokyo
On the 1st of September we finally breakthrough the enemy’s line and we quickly encircle many of the defenders across the city. We now only need to mop up the remaining pockets...
Battle of Tokyo
And the enemy finally caves in on the 10th of September! Japanese pockets surrender across the city and we triumphantly march into Tokyo. Hundreds of thousands of Japanese men have been taken prisoner and the enemy’s last beacon of resistance has been crushed.
Battle of Tokyo
On the 18th of September Tokyo finally falls under our full occupation. International troops parade through the city to demonstrate the new world order. For the Fourth International!
Battle of Tokyo
165 International divisions are positioned across Tokyo to restore order. We have still not secured the Imperial Palace complex, but for now we will begin to negotiate the Japanese surrender and finally liberate the Japanese people.
A deadly suprise
After a pitched fire fight in the Imperial palace, our men storm into the complex and discover the Imperial family’s bodies after they had committed ritual suicide. At this moment disaster strikes; the remnants of the Japanese war cabinet detonate the stolen American Nuclear Bomb that had been hidden in the palace. Expanding from the palace, the Nuclear explosion annihilates Tokyo and with it 1,000,000 soldiers of the International. This was the deranged Fascist leadership’s final decision; to avoid the indignity of surrender they chose to take millions down with them... Let this be the last nuclear weapon used in history...
A deadly suprise
Emerging from the rubble, survivors begin to evacuate the city while occupation authorities attempt to keep order. We won the war, but at what cost?
Japan defeated
With the fall of Tokyo Japan has finally been put to rest and the curtain can finally close on the war. We will now attempt to assemble a new government for Japan and help any survivors from the nuclear bombing.
Japan defeated
Some local resistance groups have sprung up around Japan however these will easily be dealt with in time. Most of the remnants of the Japanese army have surrendered, but some have continued to hold out. None of this changes the fact that the sun will finally set on the land of the rising sun.
Japan defeated
We officially annex Japan o the 19th of September. This will only be a temporary measure though, since we want to quickly bring it under a Japanese leadership. The local garrison on Guam also seizes control over the island, but they will not last long.
Japan defeated
The Japanese Communist Party has always been a fringe movement at best in Japan meaning they are in no state to rule the country. For now, we shall maintain some control over the country while we try to implement Socialism in the country.
Japan defeated
We decide that Socialism in Japan shall be built via worker owned cooperatives under a federal government. Decentralisation of Government is more democratic and worker owned industry empowers the proletariat. These are key tenants of Socialism, which the Stalinists happened to forget...
Japan defeated
The Federation of Japan is proclaimed on the 20th of September 1951. With every county in the world liberated, we can finally begin building an International World Republic! This is the dawn of a new era, just as Feudalism led into Capitalism, so too shall Capitalism lead into Socialism. And after Socialism, we will achieve Utopia.
One and a half years on
It is now March 1953, approximately one and a half years since Japan was liberated. In this time we have focused on rebuilding areas damaged by war, demilitarising the world and promoting Socialism and internationalism across the globe. The world revolution has had a massive impact across the globe; old institutions have been swept away and new revolutionary governments have sprung up to take their place.
Europe
Peace has finally descended upon Europe after millennia of constant warfare and for the first time in history, Europe is finally unified and ready to face any challenges as they come. Internationalism has seen great success in Europe, with Iberia, the Balkan Federation and Scandinavia all being successful multi-national states that have held together despite all odds. Plans have already been proposed to unify additional nations including our own German Worker’s Republic with the Netherlands and possibly even France. We have also fulfilled our promise to one day return the Polish Corridor after we annexed it back in 1934. The region has helped us greatly through our wars, but now with the world being at peace we have listened to the local population’s wishes and returned the region to the Polish Republic. Likewise the Southern part of South Trent has also been returned to our Italian comrades.
North Africa and the Middle East
The Arabian People’s Republic was created by us back in 1934 and now it stretches from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean. Anti-Colonialism and Internationalism binds the republic together and we are happy to see a modern industrial state in Africa and the Middle East.
Africa
Our Ethiopian Comrades successfully established a Pan-African nation through their wars with the Imperialists. The African People’s Republic can be more accurately described as a loose union of communes of varying sizes. Years of exploitation has left Africa incredibly deprived and lawless so we shall try to bring Africa up to par with the rest of the world over the coming decades.
Central and South Asia
After intense negotiations, we managed to bring Pakistan and India into one single unitary state. With religion being irrelevant, it seemed stupid to artificially keep the two peoples apart. Regardless of this there are still disputes that will need to be ironed out, but it seems that India has a bright future.
East Asia
East Asia has been transformed by the Revolution. China has once again become a single unified state after constant Civil Warfare and we have dismantled the Japanese Empire. Japan has also entered a kind of Post-war economic boom meaning it is recovering very quickly. Likewise the Nuclear Bombing of Tokyo resulted in unparalleled opposition to the old order and the Japanese have accepted Socialism in great numbers.
South East Asia
South East Asia has been freed from French and British colonialism and there is talk of unifying Burma, Thailand and Indochina into one single Federation. Indonesia has also freed itself from Dutch Imperialism and now Indonesia is one of the most powerful nations in the International, spanning from Sumatra to its many island territories in the Pacific.
Australia and New Zealand
Australia and New Zealand have emerged from the World Revolution in a generally good state. They were mostly undamaged by combat leaving them both in a prime position in the post war world.
South America
South America looks largely the same in 1953 as it did in 1933 with the exception of Guyana and Gran Colombia. Argentina, Brazil and Gran Colombia have all become regional powers and a united South American Federation is not out of the question...
Central America
As with the rest of the world Central America and the Caribbean have been freed from European Colonialism. From this the unitary states of Central America, the West Indies and Haiti have emerged. These states have also become attractive tourist destinations for Europeans, promoting Internationalism.
North America
The USSA may look similar to how it did prior to the revolution, but American Society has been changed on a scale unlike anywhere else in the world. Overnight institutionalised Racism and rampant Capitalism have been swept away and new dawn has risen. However of all people in the world, it must be said that Americans are the most opposed to the International. Many guerrillas still operate from the countryside and racism is still rampant throughout the country. Hopefully over the coming decades America will accept the New World Order and take a leading role in its future. For now, border checkpoints have been set up between states to prevent rebel movement and the military carry out regular raids on suspected counter revolutionaries.
Space Exploration
We established a National Space Agency back in March of 1950 and now from the Rocket site in Rostock we are ready to carry out our first mission; to put a satellite into orbit around the Earth! Scientists from all across the International have all contributed to this project and now launch is imminent.
Space Exploration
The launch is a complete success and the satellite “Companion” is put into orbit!
Space Exploration
The timing of this launch was no coincidence, being the 5th of March. Exactly 20 years ago on the 5th of March 1933, the KPD came to power in Germany to stop the Nazis from destroying the country. 20 years on we have liberated the entire planet from the shackles from Capitalism and now with this launch we have proved that not even the sky is a limit! Further Space exploration missions have already been planned and we hope to one day reach the stars that have looked down upon the Earth since the beginning of time.
Space Exploration
News of the successful launch spreads quickly across the globe and each member state of the International personally congratulates us.
Space Exploration
Space Exploration
Space Exploration
Most importantly, our oldest comrades also congratulate us. Poland, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia were the first member states to join the Fourth International and likewise Italy and Spain were also early members of the International. We feel honoured to have fought alongside them these past 20 years.
Total Losses
These 20 years have resulted in massive losses for both Communists and Capitalists alike. Let us hope that this was truly the war to end all wars.
Total Kills
Nukes
Six Nuclear bombs have also been detonated during the World Revolution. Let the bombing of Tokyo be the last.
Battles
Land Battle history: Our earliest battles took place against the Nazis in Munich and the Fascist Italians. The most significant battles against the Italians happened at Klagenfurt and Udine. This was the only time where German land fell under Capitalist occupation (Excluding Finnish coastal raids).
Battles
Land Battle history: Following this came the war with the Stalinists. Borisov and Orsha were significant battlegrounds during this conflict.
Battles
Land Battle history: After the Soviets came the war with the Western Allies. A magnificent encirclement of the Maginot line was concluded with an all out assault on the fortification at Strasbourg, Metz and Colmar.
Battles
The Americans were similarly crushed after a series of successful encirclements at Boston and Hartford.
Battles
We achieved a decisive victory against the Chinese after we stormed into Beijing on the 10th of December 1948. The Nuclear bombings helped too of course.
Battles
And finally the entire Japanese campaign was defined by consistent massive battles. The final Battle for Tokyo shall however go down in history as the battle to end the war that ended all all wars.
A New World Order
This leaves us at the end of the World Revolution then. We have triumphed against the forces of Capitalism and freed mankind from the shackles of slavery and imperialism.
Much work still needs to be done however; Nations need to be rebuilt, factories need to be brought under worker control and mankind needs to be entirely onboard with the idea of Socialism before anything else can be done. Going further, we need to create an actual Socialist World Republic and move into a post-scarcity world. Only once this is achieved can we can finally declare our work finished. For now, we will simply sigh our collective breathes, pray for the fallen and work for a better tomorrow.
