Kingdom of Louisiana #5 A New Kingdom

To deal with our stagnating economy, an increase of tariffs is a necessary action to break even. The people of the new world are loyal French citizens and will understand.

Louisiana will have the same fate

Louisiana had been split into 5 major classes, The Seigneurs (whites that were either a feudal lord that could trace their family name to France),
Couriers de Bois (were Fur traders that are the closest to the bourgeoisie of the old world)
Habitats (Whites farmers that lived on land that the own Seigneurs owned), and Affranchise(Freed Native and African people who owned property or joined Habitats but were restricted by racial codes). The rest were slaves.

A revolt of the habitats had hit colonies hard. Due to the newly created tariffs, the Seigneurs roses taxes on the Habitats. After this tax hike, Habitats could not afford goods they needed for survival and to continue to farm. They stormed the capital of Louisiana, Nouvelle-Orléans, by these rebels. The colonial governor fled to Arcansea. Later the French colonial army put down the revolt and was brutal in dispensing "justice"

A new king rises to the throne of France. Many see Louis as a savior for France but he is old and his heir does not his charisma and many in the court deem him unfit to rule. The are uncertain times for France

A revolt of Flemish Protestants broke out to protest the repressive policies our government has on heretics. Luckily the army is there to end the revolts.

Scotland, over the past century, has become a colonial power. Their loss of land to the English caused them to focus on new world affairs. England claims these colonies are their's since a large part of Scotland is part of England. This has caused a continent wide war that could determine the fate of Europe. We have to, unfortunately, fight on the side the Habsburgs and
Castile but we must stop English expansionism, no matter where it happens.

Our policy lettering the colonies defend itself may not be the best.

We did our best but the Scottish and their allies must fight on their own. Internal crises are more of a priority right now.

The colonial governor is sick of taking orders from France and warns the government in Paris that more inference in the trading rights and economic policy, will result in rebellion.

In these troubling times, the worst possible thing has happened France. While Louis the XI was charismatic, a brilliant politician and will to compromise, Louis the XII is none of those things. He blames the new world colonies on the current economic crisis and believes Louisiana has too much autonomy

"Louisiana Alone" the people chant in town square. Nicolas-Henri is afraid. An independence war was on the horizon but the future was still uncertain. France was the largest military power in Europe and the Louisianian military was small. If Louisiana were to win what shape would it take up, would a republic from the old Roman days sprout up or would monarchy like in most of Europe rule. These and many questions plagued him for months

An alliance is crafted with new France so if we rebel they rebel.

Many habitats and others believe the Seigneurs are plotting to squash any plans of independence. They believe that the care more about their family title back in France more then the future for the colony. Many of these Habitats along with other disenfranchised groups a large inport of food

Despite times call for desperate measures. The well being of our people is more important than a few savages.

The French falling out with the Bohemian and Poles have left them vulnerable against foreign invaders. The British and Aragonians, craving revenge, Declared war for the French colonies in the Caribbean and for the return of Catalonia to Aragon.

Paris has fallen, the king has moved to Auvergne. Without the even having the ability to even control Paris, they have no authority over Louisiana.

A council meeting is called after finding out about this revelation. The Council meeting included mayors large, land owners other aristocrats. Couriers de Bois and Habitats were not included in the council. Their first action is to issue a declaration of independence from the Kingdom of France, Claiming that kingdom of France is just France there for the king of France not the king of the new world. The authorities in New France refuse to join us, claiming it treasonous to abandon France during its time of need.

The Council elects Louis (popular name) d'Anjou. Many, from every class lower than the Seigneur, believe his loyalties lie in France since his family has many feudal hondings in France. He promises that a constitution to ensure the rights of each class but many are skeptical of these promises.

To weaken France the king of Brittian has assured us subsidies, guns, and livestock to fight a prolonged independence war. We have reservations about this as many people believe Cubans should receive independent as well and have contempt for Anglophones.

The chief of the Iroquois has sent us a gift. he is sick of the French because they employ unfair practices in the fur trade.

The war is over with the British and the French but the army of the French is in tatters and cannot afford to do a naval invasion Louisiana. Any garrisons found in the new world recalled fighting in the continent.

To create an independent country, we must create a modern economy with an efficient marketplace.

Louis d'Anjou is dead and Louisiana's fate hangs in the balance. A regent is enstated since Louis' heir is only five. This makes the current governments legitimacy tank. This gives Habitats fuel to delegitimize the government and demand a king of their class.

With the inablity of France to take back her colonies, We sign the treaty of Paris that guarantees our independence.

With the threat of France gone The Kingdom of Louisiana is declared the Council. While many rejoice in this turn events the Habitats are tired of being taken advantage of. Their wages are low, they have no representation and the current government is lead by a petty Regent.
