Notes on this AAR;
I'm playing using all of the DLC, bar Mare Nostrum, and with MEIOU & Taxes version 1.25. I have manually removed the 'amalgamation government' from the game, because its really annoying and railroads history too much. Due to this, I'm not running in Ironman. For more details, see here:

The bad news continues to roll in. My good friend Alexios, emperor of Trebizond, was found dead in his chambers yesterday morning with many deep knife wounds about his body. The killer managed to elude the guards with cunning and trickery.

I sent my official commiserations to his son Basilios and also tell the captain of my personal guard to recruit some new men from the Georgian army, to further protect me.
The road is extended
The roads leading out from the capital can't all be built at once. I order the workers to build north, towards the gold mines in Alania. Getting the gold to the mint in Tbsili quickly and safely should be a priority, especially as the nation becomes more centralised.
Trebizond grows further.
Our neighbouring state has signed a peace deal with Genoa, ceding all Genovese Black sea territory to the Emperor. The deal is only a formality, the land belonged the Trebizond anyway.
It never rains but it pours
The tribesmen have risen up again, and at the same time the Turks in their greed attack Trebizond. I wonder if the Turks had Alexios killed in order to destabilise the nation before they attacked.
Sigh... here we go
Of course, I join my ally in this war, but I fear that we will not easily win it. The Turkish army has a fearsome reputation and fell rumours tell that they take young boys to become soldiers and young girls... for, well... the Sultan.

Aside:
I really, REALLY didn't want to do this.
Rebel victory
The Georgian army fell into disorder upon hearing about the Turkish attack. Just at that time, the Circassian rebels burst upon them like a flood. There was no order to the battle and the army routed in bad order, having lost three-quarters of its total strength.
The Turkish army
Scouts report that the Turkish host cannot be less than thirty thousand strong, many of them skilled horsemen. They also report they have these new cannons with them in great numbers. I fear that Khaldia will not last long before its walls are blasted apart, but I have my own problems to deal with.
Splinter force
A small group of soldiers splits from the Turkish army and tries to attack Tbsili, but the Georgian Army, recently reinforced, is able to defeat them.
The Patriarch acts
As the was rages on in Trebizond and the rebels sunder and loot in the north, the Patriarch encourages all Orthodox Christians to contribute to the war effort. He proclaims the divine future of Georgia will not mantle itself upon idle shoulders.
Internal issues
Reports coming in from Trebizond indicate that the Turkish army has left. Perhaps God is giving the faithful a chance, as he did so long ago at Jerusalem.
The rebels attack
The Georgian army manages to cause enough of a nuisance to the rebels that they decide to outright attack.
The rebels die
This time the army is in good order and the commanders successfully trap and capture the remainder of the Circassian rebels. Hopefully that will be the last I hear of them.
The Turk is back
Word from the border is that the Turkish army has returned and is intent on invading Georgia. The court is worried, but I think that the Sultan simply wants us out of the war. All the same, I order the Army to prepare defensive positions.
Our defence
The Army sets up on a mountain overlooking a river. The archers should have a fine time bombarding the Turks from such a well defended position.
The Turks attack
Despite our vastly superior position, the Ottomans are spotted advancing. I did not really expect them to challenge this position, and to carry on to Tbsili.
The fighting goes poorly
Despite raining down arrowfire on the hated Moslems, the army is distraught by their numbers, at least five times our own force.

And then the cannons open fire, tearing through rock, armour and bone. The men are truly disheartened so a retreat is ordered.

Elsewhere in the kingdom, unrest is rising again. Moslems and Catholics look to rise up in our newly acquired lands, and the army is in no position to deal with them.

I send a diplomat out alone bearing a white flag to negotiate a peace with the Ottomans.
I pray that they do not alter the deal
I was correct in my assumption that the Turk simply wanted us out of the war. I empty my coffers to seal the deal, and they request also a monthly tribute. It is not burdensome, so I agree to the terms. I did all I could. Hopefully our allies in Trebizond will see this.
Trebizond surrenders
Trebizond lost all of its land in Anatolia after signing their peace with the sultan.

The court in Tbsili are seeing this as a great weakness of Christians in the East. There is even talk of my advanced age, and possibly my abdication. This will not do.
How the mighty fall
Our ally now barely controls a small number of black sea ports, recently acquired from Genoa. If the White Horde was not consumed with infighting, they would be in real trouble.
Turkish aggression
The Georgian ambassador to the court of the Sultan has found out that the Ottomans are interested in Georgian land now. I have ten years of peace with them in which I must build up our defences and seek out new allies.
Our defence is noticed
Other Orthodox nations across Europe are keenly paying attention to our work in defence of the faith, which is helping to maintain my wavering hold on the throne.
More trouble
It seems that I am not the only one having trouble holding on to my throne. Basilios is now caught up in a civil war of his own and I worry that if I spare soldiers to aid him then my own country will be split apart by rebellion.
The rise of the Ottomans
The Turkish Empire grows ever stronger and my allies are slowly picked off. I must act quickly now if I am to retain my position in the world as a bastion of Christianity. Our old rival Shirvan is looking weaker and weaker. Their only ally in the world has an army hardly worth speaking of, and the Shirviani treasuries are no doubt full of silver and gold from trading across the Caspian sea.

Things may look bleak for now, but I hope that will not last much longer.

Thus ends part 7 of Edge of the World.

I didn't upload an episode yesterday because I didn't really feel like playing EU4. I'm not going to stop this AAR, but I don't want to force myself to do it either. I hope everyone is all right with that.
