A Communist Germany AAR: Part 12
In which we fight the Capitalists in America
Europe: Christmas Day 1944
By the end of 1944 we had finally unified Europe under the 4th International. Our next goal is our most ambitious and challenging one yet; the liberation of the American Proletariat. We have constructed a large number of transport ships and landing craft in preparation for the invasion which we will begin immediately.1945 shall be the year that the war finally ends!
Britain
The Imperialist British government successfully fled to Canada just before the British Civil War broke out, however they left behind a large number of counter revolutionary forces that have been plaguing the new British Government. For the time being, we will have to station several divisions across Britain.
The International
In spite of this support for the International remains high all across Europe. From the Anarchists in Spain...
The International
...to the recently liberated French...
The International
...to our older Comrades, the Yugoslavians now the Balkan Federation...
The International
...to of course us, the German Worker's Republic.
The International
The International unites the Working Class the world over, and we have no doubt that this is the defining moment in Human History; the moment where mankind finally frees itself from the shackles of slavery. Much still needs to be done, but we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Invasion
As 1945 begins, we start to put our plan into action. The US is too far away to reliably invade from Europe, so it will be necessary to capture a staging platform first. The island of Saint John will fit this purpose nicely. We can build up our forces on the island and then quickly land them on the American mainland. First we will send a few divisions to capture the island supported by our carrier fleet.
The Death of a hero
While our army is in transit we receive unfortunate news from the Soviet Union. Leon Trotsky has passed away from natural causes at the age of 64. We have had some ideological disagreements with Trotsky in the past, however his early support of our International after we gave him Asylum back in 1933 was crucial for legitimising our movement. We will mourn his passing and it is unfortunate that he did not live long enough to see a true World Revolution. We will fulfill his legacy by liberating the rest of the International Working Class.
Greenland
Passing Greenland our scouts report that the island is largely undefended other than local American garrisons. Seizing the opportunity, we quickly capture Greenland without bloodshed after the Americans surrender without a fight. Our men will continue on to Saint Johns.
Saint Johns
To our surprise Saint Johns was also undefended and our men quickly occupy the island. We have not had any response from the Americans yet which is rather suspicious... Regardless of this our objective is complete and we will begin sending divisions to the island in preparation for the main invasion.
Guyana
Guyana broke away from the British Empire and successfully established a Socialist republic last year, however with the Brazilians joining the Americans in the war Guyana was quickly overrun. Once the US has been dealt with, we will liberate Latin America.
Transport
The first 30 divisions land on Saint Johns on the 25th January. There are still many other divisions left back in Europe so it will take some time to move them all over.
Transport
Over the course of February and March we transport almost our entire army to Saint Johns. Two fleets regularly travel between North America and Europe bringing more and more men with each trip. Vast numbers of supply ships deliver food to the island and yet we have had no response from the USA... Could they be waiting for us to finish before launching some kind of attack?
Iceland
Our men finally capture Reykjavik in March leading to the Americans fleeing inland. The last part of "Europe" has almost been liberated.
Free French surrender
Back in Africa the French Government in exile finally surrenders to the International. After being expelled from North Africa by the Arabs and after having most of their territory in Central Africa taken by the African People's Republic, the French finally decided to put an end to their charade. This has legitimised the French Worker's Republic and we will leave it to them to punish the "free" French Government. Freedom to Africa! Down with imperialism!
A kind of Nuke
As a stop gap measure, our nuclear scientists have come up with a "dirty bomb", or a bomb that can disperse nuclear material across a region. This isn't exactly the super weapon we had in mind but Einstein assures us that they are onto something big.
Iceland
Iceland is finally secured at the end of March. We will transfer Iceland and Greenland to Scandinavia once the American threat has passed.
Patrols
We have almost finished transporting our army to Saint Johns so we will begin active patrols looking for the American fleet off the American East Coast.
Invasion force ready
All 155 divisions have been assembled in Saint Johns. We now feel ready to begin the invasion. Our first priority will be securing a large beach head so our initial invasion wave will be made up of motorised infantry and armoured divisions which can quickly advance and capture a large amount of land.
Landing
Our chosen landing point is Halifax in Canada. For some peculiar reason the beaches are undefended meaning our army can land there and strike out quickly. Once secured, we will begin advancing southwards into New England.
Disembarking
The landing goes off without any issues and our men are ready to liberate America. Onwards! For Socialism!
The Americans appear!
The Americans finally strike us by launching a large scale attack on our carrier fleet off the coast of Halifax. We still have transport ships in the area so they are disrupting our ability to effectively repel the Americans.
Victory!
We successfully repel the American attackers after sinking one of their carriers and damaging many of their other ships. Unfortunately the VMS Humanity took a large amount of damage during the attack and we also lost a fleet of transport ships.
Advance!
Our divisions begin their advance from Halifax by attacking the Canadian garrison in Moncton. It is obvious that the men stationed there weren't expecting combat and they are easily defeated by our heavy armour and mobile infantry.
Naval battle V2
We pursue the American fleet to the New England Coast and reengage them. The Americans have a large number of carriers ad we are unsure if our more advanced carriers can defeat all of them...
Naval battle V2
While we do win the battle, we fail to sink any American ships and worse yet the Schleswig-Holstein is sunk! The Schleswig-Holstein dates back to 1905 and fought in Great War under the Imperialist 2nd Reich. The ship was outdated back in 1914 so only now do we realise how stupid we were committing it to modern Naval combat. Many men lost their lives because of this mistake. We will not make it again. All old German ships will be withdrawn from combat.
Naval battle V3
Thinking we had repelled the Americans, they soon return and begin attacking again. Our fleet cannot withstand constant conflict with such a large navy and we may be forced to pull back to Europe where our ships can repair.
Naval battle V3
In a fortunate twist of fate however the American carrier planes are unable to take off due to bad weather leaving our planes to inflict massive damage on the Americans. Two American capital ships are sunk and we have reasserted our dominance of the ocean.
First contact
We make our first contact with the Americans in Bangor. We have the numerical advantage for now but American reinforcements are likely moving up to New England.
Fleet damage
After yet another naval battle the VMS Karl Marx took such heavy damage that it was almost certain that it would sink. Miraculously 29 crew men survived and saved the ship from destruction. The VMS Karl Marx will be out of action for the foreseeable future and our other ships will have to tow it back to Saint Johns. We are very fortunate that our flagship wasn't destroyed.
Africa
Our African comrades are holding up well against the Capitalists. South Africa has taken it upon itself to lead the Capitalist defence of the continent however with the Free Belgians now surrendering, it looks like the foreign exploitation of Africa is coming to a close.
Canada
Several divisions branch off of the main advance south and attack into Canada. Unfortunately the British Royal Family were quick to evacuate and they have likely left for Australia. We would have loved to put Churchill on trial but alas that can wait for another day.
Attack on Boston
Boston is the first American city in our path southwards. We have not encountered much resistance so far so we are feeling cautiously optimistic.
Cuba
Having recovered from their liberation our French Comrades have launched an attack into Cuba after having secured Guantanamo Bay. We wish good luck to them!
Boston Falls
Boston falls on the 8th of May and 27,000 defenders are taken prisoner. As Boston's defence falls our scouts report the first major American army group moving to engage us.
Counter attack
Upon arriving in Boston our motorised infantry are not met by cheering crowds of workers happy to be liberated but instead gunfire from civilians. It will take time to pacify the populace, time we do not have as we quickly come under attack from 15 enemy divisions.
Encirclement?
This provides us with an opportunity however. If we can keep the American army distracted attacking Boston, we could encircle them with our motorised infantry around the side. We move more units into Boston while the bulk of our army begins to flank.
Encirclement!
The plan goes off perfectly. The American army in Hartford realises what is happening and calls off its attack but by now it is too late; we begin attacking Hartford and our infantry divisions have a clear path to the lightly defended New York.
New York
Our fleet moves into position to begin shelling New York. Our infantry moving into the city will have to take part in combat unlike anything ever seen before, with gunfire raining down from above from the many skyscrapers dotting the city.
Victory!
After a long fight we capture New York and the American army in Hartford is forced to surrender. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are captured dealing a massive blow to the American war machine. The fall of New York has also dealt a blow to the Americans, with the heart of capitalism being liberated by the International.
FDR Dies!
On the 14th May we receive shocking news from our informants in the USA. Franklin D. Roosevelt, the President of the United States, has died. Perhaps he was just in ill health? Perhaps he has been under too much stress due to our invasion? Perhaps the shock of the American defeat in New York was just too much for him? Whatever caused his death, the consequences of it remain the same. The US government has likely been thrown into chaos meaning we should exploit this to make further advances.
Last defence
The stragglers from Hartford have fled to Providence where they remain surrounded. American infantry are using heavily outdated equipment. They continue using bolt actions rifles while we have fully automatic Assault Rifles.Likewise American tanks have not had any combat experience and are similarly outdated and ill fitted for combat.
Last defence
Roughly 46,000 men surrender in Providence. It will be hard to keep the prisoners in America as they will probably be able to escape and resume fighting us. For now, we will ship all prisoners back to Europe where they will provide manual labour and receive "reeducation" to eliminate the Capitalist brainwashing.
State of the Front
The State of the Front. We have captured most of New England and we are beginning to advance southwards towards Washington D.C. In Canada, our tanks are converging on the Canadian capital.
More troops
We land 33 additional divisions in New York to help with the advance. Our men have been fighting for Socialism since 1933 so they are much more experienced fighters than the Americans. In spite of this it must be said that the Americans are well motivated and possess a strong ideological devotion to defend their country not unlike our men back in 1934 when we were attacked by the Italians.
Inflicted losses
The losses inflicted since 1933. We are leading the chart as a result of our many wars against the Capitalists. Our Polish Comrades follow us having been fighting alongside us since early 1934. So far, the Americans have only inflicted 17,000 losses, mostly on us.
Taken losses.
Taken losses since 1933. The Americans have already lost 620,000 men due to our invasion.
Advance south
More American reinforcements arrive to protect the front. Naturally we easily breach them and we see another opportunity to encircle the area around Washington.
Nukes!
Our nuclear scientists have developed another nuclear bomb. We tested it in the Libyan desert and the bomb exploded with a yield of 15 kilotons of TNT. This is the kind of weapon we were promised!
Nukes!
Unfortunately our reactors in their current state will be unable to to provide enough material for another bomb for many years to come... Impressed by the test detonation, we will continue expanding our reactors.
Nukes!
In the mean time, our scientists are already working on an improved nuclear bomb, which may have almost double the yield. Such weapons could decimate concentrated American armies and allow us the blow holes in the front line. Needless to say, we will not be deploying them against civilian targets. We are liberators not conquerors.
More victories
Moving towards Washington we capture more prisoners. 11 American divisions have assembled in Newark and we are attempting to encircle them.
Encirclement
Our tanks begin their encirclement by attacking Philadelphia which is mostly undefended. Will we pull off another encirclement similar to New York?
Ottawa
The Canadian capital falls on the 3rd of June. If we push west from here, we could force the Canadians to surrender.
Rust Belt
We capture Pittsburgh, a major American industrial city on the same day. Our advance from the North will cripple the American industrial machine preventing them from launching a counter offensive. For now, our men will try to convince the American worker's to take control of the factories though they are mostly reluctant to do so...
More prisoners
Our encirclement around Newark fails as most of the defenders manage to pull back into Philadelphia. Despite this we still we able to capture some men and inflict 10,000 casualties.
Attack on Philadelphia
With our army in position we begin a mass assault on Philadelphia. We quickly pull off numerous breakthroughs and begin advancing into the city. The path to D.C. lies open...
American offensive
The Americans begin a major counter offensive effort to push us back from the capital. We will not give one inch of liberated land.
Philadelphia falls
As Philadelphia falls, the future for the US looks increasingly bleak. None shall resist our red fury!
Canada secured
Canada's most significant cities have fallen to our advance. In spite of this they have refused to surrender and the Canadian government has relocated to Vancouver. Our motorised infantry will pursue them by first going through Detroit, another major industrial city.
Attack D.C.
On the 8th of June we begin to attack the American capital. While most of the government has fled the city, its fall will still cause major damage to the county's administration.
Attack D.C.
The attack on D.C. does not last long. After just a few days, the city surrenders to our righteous red terror.
D.C. is ours
Washington comes under International occupation.
State of the front
The state of the front as of the 15th June. We have made a significant advance into the United States and successfully captured hundreds of thousands of American soldiers. America is however a big place and we doubt that occupation of the East Coast will be enough to force American surrender. The question remains; can we occupy such a large, powerful and hostile country? Can we liberate a Working Class who hates Socialism? Do the Americans have any unpleasant surprises waiting for us? Only time will tell...
