A Communist Germany AAR: Part 13
In which we continue our fight against the Americans
State of the front: 10th June 1945
The American army has been shattered by our numerous encirclements and their government is in disarray after the capture of Washington and the death of Franklin Roosevelt. This is our chance the strike! If we can occupy enough of the American East coast before they mobilise, we might be able to force a quick end to this war.
Tanks in America
America is a large country so vehicles will play a significant role in our drive west. Hundreds of German tanks have been shipped to harbours in New York and await crews to drive them to the front.
American Propaganda
Vast quantities of anti-Communist propaganda have been pushed out by the Capitalists and as a result most of the American populace is heavily opposed to our liberation. We dread the counter insurgency that we will have to carry out once we begin moving into the rural south.
American supporters
In spite of this small groups of Communist supporters have come out of hiding to express their support for our International. Although small, these groups will be vital in establishing a collaboration government post war.
World Revolution
We will not let any of this stand in our way however; the USA is the last major Capitalist Nation and victory here will spell the end of Capitalism across the World. We have the full support of the International and the International working class. For the sake of mankind, we will not lose!
The American Army
The American army has been almost entirely crushed during our initial offensive leaving just militias to protect the country. If we can secure the industrial heartland of the USA quickly, we should prevent any additional divisions entering the fray.
The American Navy
The American navy is in a much better state however. The Americans still possess numerous carriers and we have had to withdraw several of our capital ships for repairs. It seems the American investment in their navy has paid off, but was it worth it for them to under fund their army?
Naval retreat
We acknowledge American naval superiority and withdraw from the battle. Hopefully they won't exploit this by cutting off our supply lines.
Advance
By the 16th of June we have secured Michigan and have begun moving south. Few American divisions remain and we have mostly had to deal with local militias which have inflicted heavy casualties.
Africa
The African People's Republic has successfully annexed Nigeria after a series of advancements into the north. The Nigerian south coast remains controlled by local warlords and rebels leaving us to question how our Comrades plan on administrating such a large continent...
Chicago falls
One of the last remaining great American industrial cities falls to the International on the 20th of June. Despite Chicago being a major industrial city, support of Socialism among local workers is low. Perhaps post war, out of necessity, we may need to impose a slightly more authoritarian government to keep the population under control...
The North Eastern Militia's Last Stand
Numerous Militias operating around the great Lakes have assembled in Cleveland in preparation for a major assault. To cut this plan short, we have begun an attack of our own which should destroy these insurgents.
Additional landings
We land an additional 31 divisions in Charleston and order them to begin moving to secure the south. The amount of attrition these men will have to deal with will be ungodly. Everywhere we go, we are greeted by bullets from the local population, not actual units associated with the American army. Every village, town and city has guerrillas lurking in the shadows only to strike once we let our guard down. It has been almost impossible to tell combatants apart from non-combatants and our men have had to resort to...unsavoury methods to pacify the population. While our advance has been swift, our casualties only continue to grow and grow and grow...
Our armour
We continue to have the advantage in open combat with organised militias. Most militias lack the capability to destroy our tanks so the enemy continues to be crushed under their treads.
Atlanta
Motorised infantry begin to move into Atlanta, the first southern city in our path.
Great Lake Militia surrender
The Great Lake Militia officially surrenders on the 27th of June after taking heavy losses from our attack. Hundreds of thousands of prisoners come under our control and most will be shipped back to Europe where they will be incapable of escaping.
Rebels
The first Canadian resistance against our invasion comes from locals in Moncton springing into rebellion. We have no divisions in the area so we will need to move some northwards to deal with the rebellion. If too many of these rebellions break out, our advance will be slowed to a crawl. We also finished building strategic bombers capable of deploying nuclear weapons, but at this point they may not need to see use...
Winnipeg falls
Our motorised infantry moving west through Canada soon occupy Winnipeg where the Canadian government was in exile. With the Canadian government in turmoil, we can finally force their surrender.
Canadian liberation!
Canada is liberated on the 2nd of July turning it into the Canadian Socialist Republic. The British Royal family did successfully evacuate to Australia but regardless of this we have nearly defeated the remnants of the British Empire.
4th of July
The state of the front on the 4th of July. As expected resistance surged across occupied areas due to the anniversary of American Independence from the British Empire. While we have maintained our control, we are beginning to worry about manpower shortages. If this war continues for much longer, we may run out of men and face opposition back home. It seems the Americans are relying on a strategy of inflicting as many casualties as possible to force our withdrawal. This is a new kind of warfare we are not used to...
Houston
Houston is defended by two militia divisions which are easy pickings for our motorised infantry. Years of constant warfare have led to our men being much more experienced than our rivals.
Tank battle!
On the 15th of July our tanks engaged enemy armour around Fort Smith. We have not had a major tank battle yet so our military scientists are excited to see whose tanks are superior.
Tank battle!
In the end we come out on top. The Americans have not had as many opportunities as us to test their tanks on the field leaving them with many defects that only combat can expose. In addition to this, the tank destroyers attached to our tank divisions were easily able to destroy the enemy's vehicles.
Houston
Houston falls on the 18th of July. Our advance through Texas has been especially difficult due to the high rates of gun ownership in the area.
Africa secured!
The African People's republic finally secures the bulk of Africa on the 21st of July. Some Brazilian divisions continue to hold out in isolated areas and Liberia is still under Capitalist control.
Strike from above
After occupying Winnipeg our motorised infantry continued moving west and they are now striking the American West Coast from the North. By securing the West Coast, we can prevent the escape of many American capitalists allowing us to bring them to justice later on.
Another Militia army
Another Militia army has assembled in the North but we do not have the divisions in the area to deal with them at this time. The best we can do is force them back via an armoured assault.
Militias withdraw
Being unable to destroy our tanks, the 10 American divisions withdraw to join their comrades in Saint Paul. If we can keep them contained for now, we will soon have enough men in the area to crush them decisively.
West Coast
Moving down the west coast, we take local garrisons by surprise and force their surrender. We will soon reach California, a rich and powerful state in the Union.
State of the front
The state of the front as of the 4th of August. Over half of the USA is under International occupation and the remaining states are generally sparsely populated. Victory will need to come soon however, the attrition we are taking is terrible.
Africa secured!
The African People's Republic finally controls the entirety of Africa and is the largest member of the International by population. The African People's Republic cannot be called a state in the usual sense however. Many areas are not even aware that they are now part of this republic and warlords continue to roam freely due to the lack of control from Addis Ababa.
Nuclear weapons!?
Forward scouts report that a Nuclear Weapon production plant exists in Albuquerque to the west! We thought we were the only state with these weapons however it seems that the Americans have been producing them too. The question remains, if the Americans had nuclear weapons why haven't they used them to repel our invasion?
Engaging the last Militia army
With additional forces arriving in the area, we begin attacking the Militia holding out in Saint Paul. Despite outnumbering us, these poorly armed and equipped men are nothing compared to our professional army.
Chicago in rebellion!
Chicago breaks out in rebellion after an incident in a local factory by our occupation forces spiraled out of control. Nearby infantry divisions quickly move in to put down the rebellion.
Albuquerque secured
Our tanks reach the nuclear facility in Albuquerque but it appears that the facility has been completely sabotaged beyond use by retreating American forces.More worryingly, we discovered documentation showing that several nuclear weapons were produced here but were moved to Los Angeles in preparation for them being moved out of the country to prevent capture... We have no idea where these weapons will end up, but we can only hope that they turn up sooner rather than later.
Chicago rebellion put down
The rebellion in Chicago is successfully put down on the 11th of August. We lost 600 men to the rebels 4,600 but still, every man we lose continues to drain our manpower.
American militia men's last stand
One of the last American militia armies withdraws to Duluth to make a last stand. They will not hold out for long.
San Francisco falls
San Francisco falls on the 16th of August to our motorised infantry. With this loss, yet another port has been put out of action preventing more Americans from fleeing the country.
Militia put down
Our armour crushes the Militia army in Duluth. One of these armies remains and it is located just to the west of Duluth. Let us crush the last piece of resistance to the International!
State of the front
State of the front as of the 18th of August. With our armies moving to secure California, we are seeing the emergence of a pocket in the North West. We wonder how much longer the Americans will hold on for before they surrender...
Attack on Los Angeles
Our infantry begin moving into Los Angeles and easily put down the token resistance put up by the local defenders.
American counter attack
The Americans have been able to successfully recapture Seattle reopening another port on the Pacific. If we want to prevent the American Government going into exile, we need to secure all avenues for escape.
San Diego falls
With San Diego's capture, we have created a pocket to close around the last defenders. We are finally seeing the end of this war.
Broken defence
The remaining defence is largely disorganised and the open terrain allows our divisions to easily outmaneuver the enemy.
The Last Stand
The remnants of the American army have begun their last stand in Minot...
The Last Stand
But being surrounded they are unable to hold out for long. This is the end of organised resistance to our occupation.
State of the front.
The USA, on the 4th of September 1945. American control is just limited to the primarily rural North West leaving American Victory impossible. The real pain will come post war, when we'll need to set up an occupation government...
Space exploration?
Numerous German scientists have come together to propose exploration of outer space. While this sounds incredibly difficult and expensive, we will investigate further into the matter once the war with the USA has been resolved. What better way of raising our prestige than by taking a bold step into outer Space?
USA government collapses
The US government has been in a state of collapse for some time but now it is really falling apart. Politicians have been abandoning their posts and fleeing for Seattle where they believe they can escape our righteous red terror.
Salt Lake secured
Salt Lake city comes under our control in late September. This means that Seattle is the last city under American control
Seattle falls
And a few weeks later Seattle too falls to our army.
State of the front
The USA as of the 9th of October. US control is limited to the forests and mountains surrounding Washington.
West Indian declaration of independence
After the British surrender numerous Caribbean islands defected to the USA for protection. Seeing the state of the USA, they have declared independence and aligned with Brazil.
American surrender
On the 12th of October, 1945, the USA officially unconditionally surrenders to the International. With this, the heart of Capitalism has finally been torn out and we can liberate the American proletariat. There are several candidates which can rule this new America but we settle on James Cannon from the Worker's party. A strong hand will be needed to stamp out Capitalism from America!
Land returned
With the surrender of the USA, we return Iceland and Greenland to our Scandinavian comrades.
The USA; a socialist state.
On the 18th of October the Worker's party takes control. Almost immediately protests break out across the nation and local police forces refuse to assist the new government. For now, we will keep our army in America to keep order on the streets and stop the country falling into anarchy.
Fleet returns home
While our army will remain in America, our fleet can finally return home. Our fleet took severe damage during the war so repairs are desperately needed.
USSA
The United Socialist States of America or the USSA. With the American defeat, nothing stands in the way of the International. For now, we will focus on maintaining Socialist control in America before we consider any further military endeavours.
